The Sunshine Coast Council has announced that they are currently having discussions with a number of airlines and mining companies (currently unnamed) about an additional FIFO services as well as increased employment of Sunshine Coast residents.
This comes after Rio Tinto (through Skytrans) increase their FIFO services to four times a week.
As things are still yet to be confirmed, Cr Lew Brennan (Economic Development & Entrepreneurship Portfolio) has said that’ they are not in a position to say who or when it will happen’. However what he does say is that ‘it’s looking very promising’.
This increase in fly-in-fly-out services goes hand in hand with the Sunshine Coast council’s implementation of their Resource Sector Action Plan, which was developed to support the growth and development of the mining sector and the local community.
Cr Brennan says that this is a great perspective on the Sunshine Coast can benefit from the resource industry even though the coast does not have any mine located in the area.
The council is looking to promote opportunities for the local workforce and business as well as attracting people from around Australia, who may be employed in the resource industry to live and invest into the local economy.
